Wissinger Wood Works - The Begining

I started my woodworking in the early 1970's, when I went to my mothers sister in County Clare, Eiré, there her husband Fergus was the village carpenter and a good carpenter / joiner too by all the stories I heard. A very quiet man, but he was serious about wood and this rubbed off on me in my later life, not that I knew then.
Back to England and senior school, the next few years flew by, soon it was exam year and I took the "O " levels and just passed all except geography , onto "A" levels and here I took a new subject  - Design & Technolgy, which if you do not know what this entails - is all the craft subjects with a lot of science and maths too. School finished with 3 "A" levels failed my Pure Maths , but who needs pure maths in the real world. Talking of the real world , I'm leaving school like hundreds of thousand other school leavers into Maggie Thatchers world - high unemployement for school leavers, oil crisis just about ending, and London falling apart thanks to the politics of GLC and Maggie's goverment arguing over everything. So, I joined the Army. Into the Queen's Regiment I went to Bassingbourne Barracks for my basic training - survived this & onto the battallion. Germany, Cyprus ,Gibralter Colchester ,and a few other places I've forgottten, but all in all I had a good service, and made some good mates, sadly most are now dead.
It is now 1990 , I'm a civilian and working as a chef, when I recieved a brown envelope - Call up papers for the Persian Gulf war 1990 - did my time and got the hell out of Dodge. Then for my sanity, I went back to wood working and learned the age old skills of furniture restoration and cabinet making. So in 1995, I moved to Holland and started a woodworking business, which after 25 years of doing all sorts of wood working I'm returning back to the beginning, and making custom furniture.

Antiques and More......................

The family started in 1975, buying and selling

“ Used Furniture”, Art work , Porcelain and bric a brac. Over the years our stock increased in quality and in quantity , until it was time to move to the

“ Home of London Antiques”   which was Bermondsey London SE1.

Then, it was a large collection of old warehouses filled to the roof rafters with anything one could think of – wardrobes, dining tables, artwork, clocks , glassware, weaponary ancient and just old.

Here my father Georg had 2 warehouses with his partner and here they traded to the whole world until 1981, with the cost of rent going through the roof, the business then moved to the Gateway of the Cotswolds – Chipping Norton and the new Antiques Centre.

Now the centre moved to a warehouse nearer to the main shop and there is the main showroom for antique furniture, works of art, glassware , toys , porcelain and much more.
